The Insider
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a student, tutor, teacher, trainer, administrator, or advocate of adult education and literacy, we all feel a need to stay connected. That’s the role of “The Insider,” the monthly e-newsletter of Literacy Volunteers of America, Essex & Passaic Counties, and it’s a role we take seriously. Each month we feature stories and photos of our students, tutors, and teachers and a look at their lives both inside and beyond LVAEP. There’s the student who, as a young girl traveling without her parents, fled Africa’s longest war by walking and riding a shared, rented camel across hundreds of miles of desert; the tutor who, as a Peace Corps volunteer, commuted daily up steep hillsides to indigenous Guatemalan villages on a horse with a wooden saddle, and students tutors, and teachers who paint, write poetry, dance, sing, and sculpt iron and stained glass art for exhibit. The stories in our community are amazing.
We also list learning and networking opportunities available through our workshops, and the webinars and conferences of adult education organizations across the U.S. And we provide links to news stories about efforts to eradicate illiteracy around the world for, after all, our mission is the same no matter where we live. We hope you enjoy the The Insider and, whatever you do, stay connected.
