Awards and Recognitions
Barry Batt’s incredible story of a childhood deprived of education has stirred interest among all who have read it, from educators in New Jersey to those overseas. It is slated for publication this year in an upcoming book on literature, and has earned him the first-place memoir writing award in the New Jersey Association for Lifelong Learning (NJALL) 2016 Learner Writing Contest. Other LVA, Essex & Passaic Counties students also placed well in the contest, including Clifford Henry, an Army National Guard and Army Reserve soldier who served in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He won first-place for fiction writing. Other awards include, but are not limited to Literacy New Jersey’s 2015 Outstanding Affiliate prize, and its 2015 Student Excellence award, as well as NJALL’s 2014 Teacher of the Year award. Our students and tutors are a hard-working lot and they deserve every acknowledgement they’ve received and more. We’ve included some of the wide range of awards they’ve earned here on our site.
